DetailsAt Blindspot most of the natural objects we use are found while hiking the hills and walking the city streets. But for me the best place for a stroll comes with sand between my toes on the smell of ocean. To notice the elaborate inside of a broken sand dollar and the myriad of seaweed design is a joy. Winter is the best time to collect shells and seaweed on beach walks. BlindSpot uses real shells I find to create the molds for these decorative boxes. As a child my parents taught me to make dolls from kelp and always let me come home from the beach with pockets full of interesting rocks. It was a direct line to becoming a sculptor having a preoccupation with texture. The small size box is 6" x 6" and about 3" tall including the knob, with interior dimensions of 5 3/8" x 5 3/8" x 2". We use them to store jewelry, cocktail napkins and odds and ends. The box is made from bamboo and we make the lids in the studio using fiber reinforced gypsum cement. They are finished with natural shellac and metallic pigments and are available in sixteen colors and 2 sizes.
