DetailsThe Tree Fern Decorative wall panel pairs well with our Maiden Hair Fern panel or several of our other botanical images. Wired on the back to hang on the wall or sit on a small stand.
To create our panels, boxes and mirrors I use real leaves, shells, rocks, seaweed, flowers and seed pods to make molds from urethane and silicone rubbers. In some cases, a more elaborate process is used, for instance creating rubber seaweed from real wet, slippery seaweed. Each new design may take anywhere from 50 to 200 hours work before we can start production. Once the mold has been made the object is cast in one of 2 kinds of architectural gypsum cement. The piece is then finished with three to five coats of natural shellac and metallic powders. A patina is applied, dried, rubbed with steel wool, hand polished and highlighted. We have designed and produced mirrors as large as 11’ long as well as fireplace surrounds and sculpture. -
